Kate Lyddon / Bellydancer
Collage and graphite pencil on paper, 21x14,6cm, 2019
By Kate Lyddon
Kate Lyddon (b. 1979 in UK) lives and works in London, UK. Working across drawing, painting and sculpture, Kate Lyddon (UK) creates scenes of bodily absurdity and dark humour. A cast of characters, sometimes cartoon-like and often grotesque, enact a variety of nonsensical actions and poses. The production of each work involves embarking on a journey into the unknown, with Lyddon feeling her way at every step.
Her works are part of many important private and public collections worldwide (e.g. Saatchi collection and Zabludowicz collection) and was awarded several prizes (e.g. the Mark Tanner Sculpture award in 2014-2015, and runner up of the Marmite Prize for Painting in 2006).
